Baking… The New Makeup Trend

Today I want to talk a little bit about one of the new trends in the beauty world.

 

Baking.

 

 Yes, Baking.

 

This is something that became popular with drag queens and has crossed over recently due to the highlight and contour trend. At first I was not on board with this trend as it looked like they were caking flour on their faces. Then again I was also afraid of the contour and highlight until I got the hang of it! I can now say that I have since come on board with a bit of “baking”.

 

If you’re thinking “What the hell is baking?!” like I was, it refers to applying a  coat of translucent powder with a damp sponge or brush to help set your foundation or concealer, and then dusting it off leaving a creaseless, flawless finish.

 

The past few weeks I’ve been “baking’ only under my eyes to the tops of my cheek bones and close to my nose. I haven’t been using it to clean up my contour or use in other places I would generally highlight. Maybe for a special occasion but not for just going to work. Anyway, I’ve actually been liking my results. “Baking” helps fill in my large post acne pores and has helped keep my oiliness at bay into the evening!  Before, even with my favorite Urban decay setting spray, I would still get oily mid to late afternoon. I can really tell a difference! Before my blush and highlight would just sit in my pores and make them look terrible and even more noticeable. Now it looks much smoother! Some of you may ask, why don’t you quit highlighting so you don’t have to worry about baking….. Well my answer is pretty simple, I want to look like a freaking disco ball. I love a good highlight! Now I can have filled pores and a highlight. HELL TO THE YES!

 

I’ve been using the budget friendly $6 ELF HD Translucent Powder for Baking while I tested it as I didn’t want to invest in a higher priced powder such as Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder or the NARS Translucent Crystal Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder. The ELF HD powder is suppose to be a dupe for Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder. While I have never owned the MUFE HD Powder, I can tell you the ELF version has been a favorite of mine for a while and I am nearing the end of my 3rd. The ELF powder is very finely milled and velvety to the touch.

 

Below you can see where I Bake my makeup, helping to keep oil at bay and create a creaseless surface.

 

Here you can see where the powder helps to fill in my pores.

Yes, those little white dots are where the powder has settled into my pores.

 

Finally you can see my makeup and resting bitch face are in full force. Also, this office lighting is making me look HELLA PALE!

 Contour: Laura Gellar Baked Foundation in Tan (sometimes I just like to use a darker powder foundation for contour.. call me crazy)

Highlight: Looxi Beauty Highlighter in Bombshell

Eyes: Coastal Scents Barista on the crease, Frosty Taupe on the outer corner and Caramel Ice on the lid

Mascara: Rimmel London Lash Accelerator
